Empowering Tomorrow’s Voices Today: The Puddletown Youth Council

Puddletown Parish Council is proud to have established the Youth Council in early 2025, in partnership with the children of St Mary’s CE Middle School. This inspiring initiative gives young people a meaningful platform to get involved in local decision-making and have their voices heard.

Through their involvement, the children have gained a strong understanding of the role of a Parish Council, from managing local amenities to shaping the future of the community. As Youth Council members, they now apply that knowledge to real-life projects that matter to them and their peers.

The Youth Council identifies issues and opportunities around the parish that they feel passionate about. Working alongside the Parish Council, they explore how improvements can be made, helping to influence positive change in the local area.

First Project: A Safer Walk to School

The first project brought forward by the Youth Council focuses on creating a safe walking route to school along Coombe Road, an idea rooted in the students’ own experiences and concerns. Their well-researched report was formally presented to the Parish Council, demonstrating a thoughtful and proactive approach to local challenges.

This is just the beginning. With their energy, insight, and commitment, the Youth Council is helping to shape a more inclusive, forward-looking Puddletown. We’re proud to support the next generation of local leaders as they help build a better community for all.
